Summer In Duhallow

June in Duhallow a nice time of year
Where the song of the cuckoo one often does hear
The migratory nest parasite who arrives in May
Can be heard singing cuckoo in June every day

The dark barn swallows to feed their young in their mud nest on shed rafters nearby
On the pursuit of flying insects above the old fields do fly
They arrive in their birthplace every year in mid Spring
The strong pull of Nature is quite an amazing thing

In the leafy groves of Duhallow young birds chirp all day
When they leave their nest on dependent on their parents for a few weeks they stay
But they are fully independent and fend for themselves in July
That Nature has her own wonders none ought to deny

Cattle on nutritious young grass gaining weight by the day
In the warmth of the sunshine chewing their cuds do lay
Duhallow in June is looking beautiful and green
And Nature at her finest she is to be seen.
