On Burns

He was born as a mortal and as a mortal he died
But the great Bard of Ayrshire remains Scotland's pride
Few as great as he was in truth one can say
In his poems and songs his legend lives today

Of him greatness it never can be denied
His new year anthem Auld Lang Syne known Worldwide
Robert Burns was more than a literary figure of note
He was quite a character and an all time great poet

From an Ayrshire ploughboy to Worldwide renown
He is famous Worldwide in every village, city and town
Burns is to Scotland his birth land and home
What Gandhi is to India and Caesar is to Rome

When i was a young boy and my hair was dark brown
I heard an Irish Traveller singing Burns song 'Afton Water' at a horse fair in millstreet Town
The memory of it's haunting beauty is with me today
Such moments in the mind never do fade away

The pride of his clan and his Country and race
In the World of poetry Robert Burns commands a high place
A poet for all ages his words live on in time
And his legend has outlived the demise of rhyme.
