Rufous whistlers distinctive from other whistlers in their way
As they feel inspired to song when thunder or loud noise they do hear
And their loud whistling song makes their presence quite clear
White throat with white band and unders buff and back and tail gray
Not of the better known songbirds of them one can say
Yet of them it can be said there is much to be known
And they do have a charm of their very own
Birds of the woodlands and the treed countryside
They have a huge range they live Australia wide
The female lacks the white throat and her breast more freckled and pale
But in other ways she does resemble the male
On outer fork of tree in grass cup like nest the female bird lay
Two to four olive eggs of freckles of brown and gray
Birds of the rural woodlands is how they seem to be
In city or town parks them i have yet for to see
When loud cracks of thunder can be heard in the sky
On a tree at the verge of the woodland nearby
The male rufous whistler does burst into song
Once heard his loud whistles you never again can get wrong.
