Drought Times

There are no signs of rain in the blue and gray sky
For many months it has been so very dry
The cracked and bare earth it is crying out for rain
But in the long range weather forecast the drought will remain
The farm dams almost dry and the paddocks looking bare
With scarce enough of grass for to sustain a hare
A forecast high for the day of twenty nine degrees
With all of the moisture sucked from the land denuded of trees
In the drought ravaged land far from the nearest town
Top soil blowing in the wind from the earth dry and brown
Without any trees ground moisture to retain
The drought ravaged paddocks are crying out for rain
The farmer a sad looking man to behold
The last of his cattle and sheep he has sold.
