Rhymers Are Born

Rhyme is a thing that is easy to write
And easy to read and memorize to recite
And though few rhymers do make the literary grade
Like all writers they too play their role in the wordsmith trade

Most literary critics dismiss a rhymer as a non poet
Not one who is worthy of literary note
And though most of their rhymes from memory are quick to fade
Rhymers are born and cannot be made

There are a few rhymers in every town
Who write rhymes for enjoyment and never for wealth and renown
For them never an encore or a hooray
They write rhymes for the sheer love of it every day

Rhyming nowadays is no longer an in thing
And the praises of rhymers few bother to sing
They used to be popular a long time ago
Going way back in time some six decades or so

What used to be it is not anymore
Literary critics rhymers ignore
Rhymers write for enjoyment never for fame or pay
And they will be rhyming until their last day.
