English Jim

With ten great grandchildren old Jim balding and gray
Says i don't care much where my last remains will lay
In my early eighties i have known of a better day
The one with the scythe of death will soon come reaping my way

He arrived by ship from Southampton in England in nineteen sixty five
With the spirit of adventure young and carefree and the enthusiasm for life in him alive
In England he had served his apprenticeship in the building trade
Australia as a big Country with wide open spaces for him was readymade

In his first six years in Australia he travelled far and wide
In shearing sheds he shore sheep in the outback in the big countryside
And he worked in pipelines and building sites in towns and cities in Adelaide he met Kate to be his wife
She bore him two daughters and a son the great love of his life

It has been a decade of years since Kate breathed her last
She died of a major heart attack death came on her fast
He grieved for her for many months though time heals mental pain
Fond memories and photographs are all of her he does retain

English Jim from Southampton he is a nice old bloke
He enjoys his beer in the local pub and does laugh at every joke
In his distinctive English accent he has been known to say
That he really does not care that much where his last remains will lay.
