That the honest and honourable politicians are of the few
In politics it does seem honesty does not pay
Politics is not the most honourable of professions in truth one can say
Not many honest politicians in any parliament today
But having said this in politics it has always been this way
Most politicians one can say in truth telling do not believe
And those who take them in their words are not hard to deceive
Their political opponents they lampoon and their own praises they like to sing
With most politicians power is their thing
The most successful of politicians are not high on trust
In politics it does not pay to be just
Not the most honourable of professions in truth one can say
In politics honesty does not seem to pay.
