In the quiet countryside in the moonlight
A boobook owl is calling in the still of the night
The small birds roosting in the bushes near
Awake to the voice of a bird they do fear
With their tiny hearts beating in fright
To seek a safer shelter they take to flight
Nature with them her knowledge does share
And warns them of those that they ought to beware
They know the brown owl who roosts in the day
Their sort do seek at night on to prey
Quite spooked with a boobook owl calling nearby
To seek safer shelter they quickly do fly
A full moon is shining in the starry sky
As a boobook owl mopoke mopoke does cry.
