Across green old Duhallow from here far away
Cool winds from the Boggeraghs are blowing today
In October a cool, wet and windy time of year
In the prime of the Autumn as Winter draws near
Swollen by the downpours of recent heavy rain
Brown storm water flowing fast in every field drain
The swallows are on their way for warmer climes far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
The cattle will soon be in their farmyard wintering sheds for at least a five months stay
For to live until April on silage and hay
And at the arrival of the redwing thrushes from the colder north one comes of to know
That the Boggeraghs soon will be in their hats of snow
The deciduous leaves are turning to brown
And to the grass by their parent trees on the wind drifting down
Grey clouds o'er the Boggeraghs more rain on the way
The sun may not shine on Duhallow today
A chill in the wind in the grey of the dawn
And the salmon are swimming upriver to spawn
In green old Duhallow every bush, tree and hedgerow
The pummelling of the strong and harsh winds are beginning to show.
