Of The Bells Of St Davids

Though i have not been in coastal south Wales for many a year
The bells of St Davids i fancy i hear
Tolling in the calmness of an evening in May
Fond memories of what was until death does stay

The wild birds of Nature singing on the bushes and trees
And above the brown potato fields carrying in the breeze
The tolling of the bell in the cathedral nearby
Can be heard echoing in the clear sky

In St Davids in May in Wales coastal south
Many migrants for tp pick potatoes about
On the brown potato fields they worked hard for their pay
For them there was never an easy day

With the changes time does bring St Davids kept pace
And modern potato picking machines the pickers did replace
And only the memories today does remain
Of a time that was and will not be again.
