Though you did not succeed in your ultimate test
Why feel disappointed since you gave it your best
Try though to win this did not prove good enough
For the winner on the day you did make it tough
Like the sporting person you are you were graceful in defeat
And you said that by one better than you that you were beat
You congratulated the winner with a handshake and well done
Saying today you were better and deservedly won
Quite a graceful loser of you one can say
You gave of your best but it was not your day
As is said of perseverance in the end it does pay
A big win from you may not be far away
To lose with honor is never a disgrace
And though disappointed you had a smile on our face.
