The memories of childhood with us does remain
Of things we used to do but will not do again
On Summer evenings until the gloaming before dark
Enjoying the games of football with your young friends in the park
The teenage beauty a few years older than you with wavy brunette hair
Than her in the town there was none quite so fair
But the crush you had on her for you came to a sad end
When you see her walking hand in hand with your friend
The innocence of youth were good days for you that did not last
And all you have left are memories of the past
Your young friends and you apart in ways seemed to grow
That few friendships last a lifetime we come of to know
The things with your young friends that you used to do
Our younger years our happiest years as many will tell you
We had lost our childhood innocence before our physical prime
Eventually everything does lose out to time
Those happy days of the what used to be
That for us at most times seemed close to carefree
Are now only memories of the long gone
And life all around us as usual goes on.
