Though the octogenarian rhymer he is rhyming on
One might say his best days are in the long gone
He is one who has written many a rhyme
Something he has enjoyed doing over decades of time
He has been writing rhymes for more than sixty years
His words full of laughter and sorrow and tears
In these literary times that are changing fast
To poetic enthusiasts he is one of the past
In the local pub he is their favorite poet
They do look on him as one worthy of literary note
To them he recites some of his poems always to an encore
And his memory quite good for one of three years with four score
The octogenarian rhymer time has become his foe
He wrote his first rhymes some six decades ago.
