The Town's Last Balladeer

To the local pub he brought many hours of cheer
Fond memories remain of the town's last balladeer
The words of so many old ballads he knew
Of his type in the World nowadays just a few

Last year the town's last balladeer from life passed away
The local pub's hour of song not quite the same without him today
With a splendid memory he was a wise old sage
And he had a fine singing voice for one of his age

A great grandfather in his early eighties survived by his long term wife
The town's last balladeer was a man who loved life
The town's last link to a near forgotten past
He died of a heart attack death came to him fast

Not many of his sort nowadays Worldwide
And the words of so many old songs with him died
To a long gone time his memories belong
He was an old favourite in the pub's hour of song

That time brings with it changes it does seem this way
But in the town there is not anyone left today
Like the old balladeer his last songs he has sung
That he learned in the days when he was very young.
