In April in Illowa near the City of Warrnambool
Deciduous trees shedding their leaves near the prime of the Fall
And for the time of year the weather mild overall
Once home to the tribe known as the Peek Wurrong
To unwritten pre history their stories belong
On warm sunny evenings in Tower Hill in the shade of the trees
Many decades ago they had their corroborees
Today in Illowa you may hear the calls of a yellow tailed black cockatoo
But never the drone of a didgeridoo
In the dry coastal countryside near Koroit Town
The paddocks a few weeks ago looking stringy and brown
In the cooler damper weather some green showing today
A sign that Winter from Illowa is not far away.
