The girls and boys i went to school with going back in time many a day
Most of them i have not seen for years and only memories with me stay
Of my first home from here even by the shortest route far north and far away
That the past lives in us as a memory is only true to say
We enjoyed our childhood innocence playing the games that children play
But as Longfellow the poet once wrote It Is Not Always May
And all we have are memories of the long ago
Of our childhood innocence and fun long before time became our foe
The girls and boys i went to school with like me young did not stay
Some of them forever are where the deceased does lay
And some of them like me migrated and are showing the wear of time
The years seem to go by quickly beyond our physical prime
The girls and boys i went to school with remain young in my memory
Perhaps i would not recognize them now if in the flesh them i did see
I only have mental images of them to retain
And as they looked as children in me they do remain.
