Time that rusts iron has become his foe
He is not the man he was decades ago
When he was the champion athlete of the town
All he has left are the memories of erstwhile renown
The legs that ran fast are nowadays walking slow
Age on the best of them finally does show
He shuffles on slow feet quite obviously lame
Few even nowadays seem to know him by name
Against the best in the Nation with success he did compete
Who would believe nowadays to see him he was a champion athlete
He cannot even walk as fast as his aged wife
One can only feel for him in his advanced stage of life
He was a champion athlete in his physical prime
But this is going back many decades in time.
