Shrone In December

The breasts of Goddess Anu are covered in snow
And cold winds of December in Sliabh Luachrs blow
The rain drizzling down from a sky gloomy grey
It is wintery by the ancient Paps of Shrone today

Legend has it that in Shrone the Goddess Anu died
The queen of the mountains of the high countryside
Her large breasts grew to the peaks known as the Paps of Shrone
Towards the west of the Boggeraghs of bracken heather and stone

The great breasts of Anu over decades of time
Have been the inspiration of the writers of song, story and rhyme
In the Boggeragh Ranges pointing up towards the sky
Quite distinctive from all of the mountains nearby

When the countryside now known as Sliabh Luachra was without a name
Goddess Anu existed before people to it came
Call it myth or legend or call it what you may
But her spirit exists in the boggeraghs of today

The song of the skylark one never does hear
Above Shrone in December a cold and wet time of the year
When the high peaks of Goddess Anu are covered in snow
And the cold winds of December in Sliabh Luachra blow.
