On This Beautiful Evening

The sweet scent of grass freshly mowed for silage or hay
Is blowing in the freshening breeze of a beautiful day
At the end of the Spring with the calendar summer near
On what is a pleasant and green time of year
Nature at her very finest to be seen
After the recent rain the countryside looking healthy and green
The dark winged welcome swallows chirping as they fly
On pursuit of flying insects in the sunny blue and grey sky
On a balmy evening of close to twenty degrees
The magpies are warbling on the sunlit trees
And birds from once heard one never again does get wrong
The golden blackbirds are in the mood for song
And the contented cattle lay chewing their cuds in the shade of the trees
On this beautiful evening of sunshine and breeze.
