An Australian writer well worthy of literary note
Henry Lawson a story writer and a poet
In life one who did know of many and up and a down
His was a hard journey to literary renown
His memorable short story The Drover's Wife
Told of a lone prergnant woman leading a harsh life
In the remote Australian outback miles from the nearest bush town
In a landscape from months of sun and wind looking bare and brown
In a harsh environment life for her a struggle every day
Her husband a drover from her miles away
Droving for a living in the big Land out there
With a large herd of cattle miles frrom anywhere
From Where The World Is Wide and Faces Of The Street
In Henry Lawson's stories and poems amazing people to meet
His are memorable portrayals of life's tougher side
That he was a great writer of him cannot be denied
Of people without some flaw not many at all
Alcohol was Henry Lawson's downfall
But genius outlives death as the wise one does say
And in his memorable writing he is living today.
