On The Passing Of Connie Hartnett

Out of the Town of Millstreet quite sad news today
Connie Hartnett of The Bridge from life has passed away
A renowned Gaelic Footballer in sports he made his mark
In an All Ireland Senior Football final against Galway in famous Croke Park

On September the tweny third nineteen seventy three
For Cork supporters an unforgettable day to live in memory
Connie Hartnett that day a skilful and speedy half back
From defence often sent Cork into attack

But there was more to Connie Hartnett than being good at Gaelic Football
He was a likeable and an honourable person overall
Beyond the borders of Duhallow's green countryside
He was one who was known and well liked far and wide

A cattle dealer along with his deceased older brother Noel and his younger brother Vincent in the livestock trade
Buying and selling calves and cattle his livelihood he made
Cattle dealing in the Millstreet Hartnetts inherited from their Hartnett ancestors in Knocknagree
In humanity breeding begets breeding is how it seems to be

Connie Hartnett died in his late sixties he was not an old man
He was one who was not granted a very long life span
But he had some great memories going back in time
When he was one admired by many in his physical prime

Connie Hartnett a good person in every way
By Cashman's Hill in St Mary's Cemetery his last remains lay
In the flesh never to be seen in Millstreet Town again
But good memories of him in all who knew him will remain.
