Old Jim with a few drinks in does feel a bit down
He has tears in his eyes for the far away town
He left as a young man six decades ago
Time known to rust iron has become his foe
The hair on his balding head is silver grey
And clearly he has known of a far better day
He has not seen his hometown for four decades of years
Though for what used to be he has not shed his last tears
Ten years ago to cancer he lost Jill his wife
She lives in his memory as the great love of his life
His children or grandchildren he seldom now see
They live far from him in a different Country
In a two bedroom semi detached bungalow he lives on his own
And happier day in life of he has known
When he is out walking in the park or on the street
He smiles and says hello to everyone he does meet
The migrant nostalgia remains in him today
With a few drinks in at the pub he talks of the past and his first hometown far away
And his ageing brown eyes become moistened with tears
At memories of the past and the long gone years.
