You are one of the millions who know him by name
And your's is one of the many voices who adds to his fame
But like all of his fans the arrogance in him you cannot see
He is not the man you make him out to be
Your ageing neighbour in her early sixties is far greater than he
All of her good deeds by her are done anonymously
Yet of singing the praises of one you have never met you never seem to tire
And a greater person you know who lives in your neighbourhood you do not even admire
Greatness lives nearer to you than you realize
The greatness in the woman who is your neighbour you do not recognize
Your admiration is for one you have never met who from you lives far away
And not for the great person who lives near you that you see every day
You are just one of many in the big World out there
Are billions of people who admire every known billionaire
Or greats of sports or famous entertainers or celebrities they may never meet
Whilst overlooking the greatness in a person who lives on their street
Your hero does not know you exist though of him you are a loyal fan
He has millions of admirers though he is quite an arrogant man
But in a great person in your neighbourhood greatness you cannot see
Why so many have their heroines and heroes in strangers seems puzzling to me.
