Though they had been married for close to fifty years
Two years ago at her husband Fred's funeral Kathy did not shed any tears
Although they had lived under the one roof as man and wife
The love that used to be between them was no longer in their life
Their only child Anne as a teenager in a drowning accident died
The young man she loved she never had the chance to become his bride
In time this is going back three decades ago
And time that ages all things has become Kathy's foe
She grieved for Sam her golden retriever who last year passed away
Though the old dog had known of a far better day
At fifteen years of age he died peacefully in his sleep
But for her ever true friend she did have tears to weep
He will never more go with her on a car drive
But good memories of her dog in her survive
At the passing of Sam tears by her were shed
But she did not have any tears for her husband Fred.
