Sad news for to learn of from the Parish of Millstreet
Of one who was raised near where the waterways meet
In the green countryside his first home in Dooneen
In Cullen or Millstreet never more to be seen
John Linehan of a family of Duhallow entertainers who are widely known
As musicians and singers the Linehans in a class of their own
John in his fifties is one who died relatively young
It is sad for to learn his last song he has sung
Survived by his mother, his children and his wife
John was one who was not born for to live a long life
Few do go through life without bearing some cross
And his fans, friends and family left to grieve for their loss
Of spreading joy in the World he helped plant the seed
And of many more like him humanity is in need
The grim reaper claimed the life from him long before his twilight years
And his farewell from life would not have gone without tears
Perhaps there is some truth in the saying the good do die young
Sad to realize that John Linehan his last song he has sung
He lived his boyhood years near where the waterways meet
In the green countryside by the Town of Millstreet.
