The Townland of Yarpturk was once the homeplace
To the Yarpturk tribe of indigenous race
Like the neighbouring Yangery tribe going back a few centuries
It is said some of their women gave birth to shipwrecked Portugese
No indigenous tribe in Yarpturk today
That they were dispossessed does seem a sad thing to say
It is said at the hands of colonizers many of them did die
And that extinction is forever is not a lie
Though all traces of their existence from their land has gone
In south west Victoria the legend of the Yarpturk today is living on
On Summer evenings in the shade of the trees
They danced and they sung in their corroborees
But all changed for them a few centuries ago
And that extinction is forever happens to be so.
