For January the first in the coastal Moyne Shire a very warm New Year's day
And in the mostly sunny blue sky just a few clouds of grey
A weather forecast high for the day of thirty degrees
And the warm air full of the buzzing of bush flies and bees
The evening quite humid with only a slight breeze
And the resting cattle chewing their cuds in the shade of the trees
The warbling songs of the magpies are so pleasant to hear
As if they are welcoming in the New Year
The sweet scent of grass nowed for silage or hay
Wafting in the breeze blowing uphill from the bay
And white butterflies flitting above the wildflowers
That have come to bloom in recent Summer showers
And with the sun on their dark wings chirping as they fly
The swallows are chasing flying insects across the sky.
