The Champion Cyclist

It does look like time it has become his foe
He is not the man he was four decades ago
In the days when his hair was chestnut brown
And he was the champion cyclist of the town
The year he was to compete in the Tour De France
And was in the big race with a winners podium chance
But in a pre Tour cycle race he received a heavy fall
Which was to prove the end of a dream for him that was far from small
As is said of life it is not always fair
Due to a broken neck he must spend his days in a wheel chair
The woman he loved did not become his wife
After his accident she choose to walk out on his life
The hair on his balding head is silver grey
In his late sixties in a nursing home he is living today.
