The best of the rhymers in the old country town
Yet he remains as a stranger to literary renown
Every local success in rhyme he does celebrate
Yet he is not one the literary critics does rate
As one who is worthy of the title of poet
And it is they who decide should be worthy of literary note
In his early thirties with two young daughters and a lovely and devoted wife
Writing rhyme to him just a hobby in his life
Though not a member of any writers club
On Saturday evenings he recites some of his rhymes at the local pub
And always for him there is an encore
As his appreciative audience call out for more
He may be one the literary critics ignore
But among the country town writers he is to the fore.
