An Aged Great Granddad

Time has become his as well as the foe
Of the woman he loved in the decades ago
The passing of time on ageing faces show
Younger anyone never does grow

An aged great granddad who has grown tired of life
Tired of his humdrum existence and his nagging aged wife
Things much better between them when they were young
No words of love for him now in her tongue

All he has are his memories of his loves of the past
But sadly for him they too did not last
The Goddess of happiness on him did smile
When love in their marriage did bloom for awhile

The woman he loved a beauty of the town
A marriage proposal from him turned down
The woman he married he is with today
And she has not grown sweeter with age one can say

He lives with his memories of better days long gone
And only his fear of death keeps him living on
In his early eighties in the twilight of his life
Tired of his existence and his aged nagging wife.
