The old bards of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra long in their graves lay
And sadly many of their poems are not living today
It can be said of them with words they had a way
And so few nowadays visit the graves where they lay
Duhallow's and Sliabh Luachra's last people of rhyme
Many of their written words have lost out to time
Years ago by aged people stories of them were told
But the young of the nineteen fifties today have grown old
The old bards of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra were famous years ago
Until time that ages did become their foe
Well loved and admired far beyond their home countryside
In their better years they were known far and wide
In literature as in all things time with it brings changes and to literary styles change did come fast
And nowadays the old bards of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra are relicts of the past
Back in the nineteen fifties when i was a boy
Listening to their poems recited by old timers i used to enjoy.
