Mrs J is grieving at the loss of her fox terrier Joe
The black and white dog she bought as a puppy four years ago
More than a pet he was her truest friend
And she is left to grieve his tragic and sudden end
Sad and tragic stories of the death of a pet one of often does read
One evening she took Joe for a walk and forgot to bring with her his lead
Joe of a hunting and going to earth breed
To hunt and drag creatures from their burrows in him had the need
In Joe a brave little dog courage did abound
He decided to challenge a wombat underground
Mrs J called her pet to come to her but her he did not wish to hear
That he was on a mission was obviously clear
The last Mrs J heard of Joe was his dying cries of pain
A memory until her own death that she will retain
The wombat had squeezed from Joe the living breath
And left her in shock and tears at her dog's sudden death
Mrs J has a non hunting breed of dog today
Her black belgium shepherd Sam her every command does obey
Quite a different dog to her former companion who in a wombat burrow died
His lack of fear for him his fate did decide.
