On George Crabbe

When experts on poetry talk of long dead poets one major poet always left out
George Crabbe of Alderburgh in Suffolk one nowadays seldom talked about
Yet he was a brilliant writer right up there with England's best
And some who know much of poets and poetry with his poems feel quite impressed

Some will tell you in this twenty first century the reason Crabbe's  poems by few are read
Is that he wrote mostly of poor people and in truth it can be said
That writers who write of the poor and hungry not seen to be worthy of being admired
Most young and aspiring writers by Crabbe's sort are not inspired

George Crabbe was a religious person he grew old as a clergyman
Yet he wrote poems of poor people until the end of his life span
His poems of  The Village and The Borough have withstood the test of time
He was writing brilliant poetry many years past his life's prime

Writers who write of poor people from their writing never do well
They do struggle to get published since their stories and poems are slow to sell
George Crabbe of this a prime example as a writer a true great
Nowadays he is seldom mentioned though with the best his works does rate.
