Since for all of us there is a last night and day
What any of us achieved in life comes to nothing in the end
We are born to mortality why otherwise pretend
Many times a great grand-dad divorced from Kate his wife
He feels rather happy on his own in life
Kate is remarried to Dave of Johnny a former friend
In life a new love often begin when an old love does end
Johnny he may be growing old on his own
But you will not hear him say of happier days he has known
Though balding and grey haired he looks well for eighty nine
And every day he enjoys a glass or two of red wine
On Saturday evening in the local pub in the hour of song
He always joins in the chorus of the sing along
For one of his age his memory serves him well
And of his life he does have many stories to tell
Old Johnny says we only can learn from the past
And you should live every day as if it is your last
We are born into life to eventually die
A fact of our existence and fact never lie.
