Today i may feel a stranger in my first homeplace
Where mine to many was a known face
Claraghatlea within walking distance of Millstreet Town
Where on old Clara Mountain as ever looks down
Some i went to school with among the deceased now lay
And some in Duhallow did not choose to stay
And some who are ageing in the homeplace like me showing time's decay
With the passage of time we do age by the day
Where i grew to love Nature when i was a boy
And learning of her ways today i enjoy
In this beautiful and sunny place in this Land far south
Of the fields of the rooks and waterways of the brown trout
Today perhaps the old fields i loved would look much the same
Some of them even had their own given name.
