Not Destined To Die Old

As they lay chewing their cuds in the paddock they do not have a care
It is only of the now that they are aware
Three years old well conditioned in market soon to be sold
They were born into life not destined to die old

In the early Summer in December after a mild and damp Spring
Such weather that a financial bonus to the beef farmer does bring
From eating nutritious young grass his steers on a rapid weight gain
On what will be a finanmcially profitable Season for him no reason for to complain

In the shade of the trees out of the warmth of a sunny and a warm Summer's day
The contented cattle chewing their cuds lay
Without seeming to realize that their end is near
They will not be living this time next year

Suppose they are lucky that they do not realize
That they are fast approaching their final sunrise
It can be said of us humans that we are unlucky in a way
On that we do realize for us there is a final day.
