At Tower Hill of the Peek Wurrong on Australia Day
For one of the runners in the half marathon a mighty hooray
When Alby Clarke the blue haired Aboriginal elder completed the run
An amazing feat for an eighty seven year old person in the hot January sun
An amazing person of him one can say
With blue hair dye he cloaks his long hair of silver gray
When he finished the race the cheering for him loud and long
This Gundijtmara elder in the home of the Peek Wurrong
To the amazing Alby Clarke one can only say well done
His late mother and father in him raised a great son
Not surprising in south west Victoria one so many admire
And of singing his praises his fans never seem to tire
To conquer his addiction to alcohol he took up running well past his life's prime
And he has run thousands of kilometres over Seasons of time
Life's greatest challenges with gusto he does meet
In many marathons and ultra marathons he did compete
Many Seasons have passed since he left primary school
There will never be another like Alby in the City of Warrnambool
Stories of him have travelled far and wide
Beyond the borders of south west Victoria's coastal countryside
On Australia Day in January twenty two at Tower Hill of the Peek Wurrong a historical place
It is said Alby Clarke has completed his last race
But knowing of the great man one only can say
That only in death he will give running away.
