In his late eighties mentally and physically feeling well
Of his life he has many stories to tell
One of life's great survivors there can be little doubt
Sixty five years ago he left Germany and made his way south
To this southern Country to begin a new life
Where he met Ann the woman he married his now long deceased wife
Many times a great granddad the hair on his balding head silver gray
Karl has known of a far better physical day
In his neighbourhood he is one well liked and well known
Quite happy in his life he lives on his own
He often goes for a walk in the in the park off of high street
And he says good day to everyone there he does meet
Though he speaks good English his German accent he retain
This is something that in him until death will remain
Karl may never see Berlin again
In him Germany's loss was Australia's gain.
