A poet and a patron of poets many decades ago
In his Georgian Anthologies he helped many a young poet Harold Monro
And though he himself quite a good poet with words he had a way
In the literary World he is not well remembered today
Lesser writers than he was seen as worthy of more praise
Though they did seem to lack in his turn of phrase
I remember as a boy when my hair was dark brown
On reading a memorable poem of his 'Thistledown'
On a warm day flying in the breeze the tiny thistle seed
In their effort to find a spot to germinate quite a brilliant poem indeed
Though in literature his does not live as a great name
In his publications he helped many a young writer to a greater fame
He helped many young poets in their literary careers quite an unselfish thing
And of his own praises he was one not known for to sing.
