New Holland Honeyeaters

In south eastern Australia in parks and gardens birds one see every day
Quite beautiful in their feathers of gold, black and gray
Small honeyeaters with long thin bills for extracting nectar from blossoms and flowers on flowering bushes and trees
And as well as nectar they supplement their diet on flies, spiders and bees
In cup shaped nest of lichen bound with spiders webs on bush or hedge the female bird lay
Two or three pink dotted pale eggs from view well hidden away
At their nesting time they treat none as a friend
And their nesting territory against bigger birds they vigourously defend
Of human kind wary though not very shy
New holland eaters the name that they are known by
Noisy little birds and aggressive in defense of their territory
In small family groups them one often does see
Quite beautiful small birds with ways of their own
In south eatern Australia to many well known.
