He Was A Champion Sportsman

He was a champion sportsman many years ago
Until time that rusts iron became his foe
The town's finest footballer in his physical prime
But this is going back many Seasons of time
The hero of that memorable Grand Final Day
When for him there was many a rousing hooray
An octogenarian great grandfather lately to cancer he lost his wife
He looks and feels sad without the great love of his life
Of better days in life he surely of has known
Grey haired and balding he lives on his own
That time is our master to everyone does apply
He was a great footballer in years long gone by
Time has taken the energy from the legs that ran fast
All he has now are memories of his glorious past.
