Since birdsong is mostly a territorial thing
At breeding time in song their borders they defend
And when singing to their neighbours of any form of love they do not pretend
In their songs birds sing to their neighbours this is our territory
At this time of year you are our enemy
As well as seducing a mate song between similar species conflict avoid
That birdsong is not all about love cannot be denied
Songbirds sing their finest in their breeding time in Spring
And to the human listener joy often does bring
But those who tell you there is only love in a bird's song
One can say of them they do have it wrong
Since birdsong with them is mostly a territorial thing
It is not for love only that birds choose to sing.
