The old bay gelding in the small paddock his muzzle is grey
And clearly he has known of a far better day
His owner not unlike him ageing grey haired Joe
At dressage events often rode on him many Seasons ago
Together they often did take out first place
Which left Joe with a happy smile on his face
But all happy times do come to an end
Six years ago Joe retired his old friend
Joe in his early eighties is well past his physical prime
And like his old gelding friend has become a victim of time
Joe of his old gelding Bill has many stories to share
But such friendships betwen humans and horses have never been rare
Joe calls to see his old horse friend every day
With fresh drinking water, oats and fresh hay
Bill will be twenty two on his next Birthday in May
The old man and old horse are showing their years in grey.
