Starlings are birds i do see every day
I first got to know them in a Land far away
When i was muich younger a long time ago
Long before time it did become my foe
That they are Nature's survivors of them none can deny
Every year their flocks in numbers multiply
Along with sparrows, greenfinches, blackbirds among others introduced to south eastern Australia in the late nineteenth century
In Victoria large flocks of them every day one does see
Along with the introduced Asian mynas by many bird lovers seen as a pest
Since they take over the sites many small native birds use for their nest
In Western Australia starlings and sparrows are shot on sight
But on the controlling of Nature's creatures should us humans have this right?
On shed rafters , under house eaves or in tree cavity in flimsy cup nest of feathers and hay
Four to eight blue eggs the female bird lay
They are known for to raise three broods a year
A reason for their increase in numbers that seems obviously clear
Every day large flocks of starlings i see
A common sight to many as well as to me
They live on insects they find on the ground
And in large numbers they do abound.
