A familiar sound of the southern night
The bookbook call of a boobook owl in the southern night
In the nearby woodland out hunting for prey
A creature who hides from the bright lamp of day
A well known member of the southern hawk owl family
The female lay white eggs of two or three
High in the hollow of an old tree
Out hunting by day one i have yet to see
Mottled brown owls with yellow eyes
Their loud mopoke cries to legendary stories give rise
That they are the ghosts of Australia's first people crying in the night
In the nearby woodland hidden from sight
Bookbook cries the bird hidden from the lamp of day
In the nearby woodland out hunting for prey.
