Just another aged person to you she seems to be
But to her there is far more than you do see
You are looking at her through your ageist eyes
But you too will grow old though this you do not seem to realize
Her praises by the community may never be sung
But she raised her three children on her own when her husband died young
Her eldest son in his early twenties a brave young man
Was brought home in a body bag from the war in Vietnam
Of the happy and sad times in life of she has known
Seven times a great grandmother she lives on her own
In her mid nineties though frail looking well for her years
One more of the town's unsung old dears
A woman who is ageing in a natural way
She does not use anti ageing creams or hair dyes for to cover time's grey
In her twilight years quite independendent of her one can say
She walks on her own in the park every day
A beautiful, kind and compassionate woman she has lived a long time
Long before you were born she was in her physical prime
There is far more to her than you make her out to be
In your ageist eyes mature beauty you cannot see.
