On The Passing Of John Murphy

Always sad to learn of  the death of a good person of the past
Of life John Murphy of Rathduane House has breathed his last
He lived as an honourable fellow good and kind in every way
But death takes no prisoners in truth one can say

A giant of a man broad shouldered and tall
In his young years he was a champion weight thrower and played Gaelic Football
At weight throwing one of Ireland's best in his physical prime
Though this is going back many Seasons in time

Predeceased by his sister Freda and survived by his sister Margaret and his brother Tim
Both of them just a few years younger than him
John was an unassuming man in some ways rather shy
And the tag of gentle giant to him did apply

Perhaps in his mid seventies when he died not that old in years
His passing from life would not have gone without tears
In his lifetime many friends by him won
His late parents Paddy and Julia Mary in him raised a good son

For his passing Ballydaly and Rathduane much the poorer today
In view of Cashman's Hill in St Mary's in Millstreet his last remains lay
One can only hope that his parting from life was not a painful release
John Murphy of Rathduane House may he now rest in peace.
