In the grey dawning them warbling one hear
The birds who do sing every day of the year
Winter and Summer and Autumn and Spring
Australia's black and white feathered minstrels are born to sing
Birds of city and town parks and of the countryside
Australian magpies live Australia wide
of them many stories are written and told
They are aggressive, territorial and bold
Fear is a thing that they do not seem to lack
At nesting time humans they even attack
They do not even treat their own kind as a friend
When they have young in their nest to defend
Known to most as magpies but in fact piping shrike
Musical birds without a lookalike.
