Crow sized black birds with thick pointy bill a little white on rump, wing tips and tail
And yellow eyes once seen and heard to recognize again one does not fail
They sing in large flocks their familiar karrawang song
The birds known to many as the pied currawong
High on tree in flat nest of sticks lined with soft material the female bird lay
Two to three brown dotted eggs from sight fairly well hidden away
They eat wild fruits including mistletoe berries and on the young of small birds prey
Due to their predatory habits not the most popular of them one can say
Out of their breeding Season in large flocks they congregate
And from the high woods to the lowlands migrate
Of humankind wary though not all that shy
That they are Nature's survivors none of them can deny
They are at their most vocal before and during rain
And once seen and once heard you will recognize them again.
