He used to be one the local football fans did celebrate
But he is not even close to popular of late
Since in the grand final he left the club down
No longer among the admired of the town
In the grand final he had a poor game
And for the club's loss he has taken some blame
The hero up to recently is not so today
One might say for him he may have heard his last hooray
No longer remembered for the many great games he did play
Since he left the side down on football's big day
But one friend to him remains ever true
And pays him the love and respect that is his due
Every evening after work he welcomes him home at the gate
His dog after all is his only true mate.
